This is Your Workout
You don't have to follow the instructor, Louise, exactly. Feeling and moving to the music is the most important thing. You can start with the basic level of each step and grow from there. Once the feet know the pattern you can add the arms. When you are ready to advance you increase energy level and size and speed of movement. This allows all ages and fitness levels to enjoy being in the same class.
Don't Stress Out and Get Frustrated
We try to have a party dance atmosphere with cardio as a side benefit. Zumba® packs many different Latin and international dance styles into the class. With only 3 or 4 basic steps per dance you will find in no time at all you will start to pick it up. The class structure is a song lasting 3 to 4 minutes with about four moves per song. Then it is on to the next song! With experience we increase the energy level of arms and feet. The same songs will be lasting 6 to 8 weeks. After that we rotate in 1 or 2 new songs a week.
Expect to spend 3-4 sessions to feel comfortable with the moves.
Experience
No dance or fitness experience is needed. If necessary check with your doctor to see if you are able to undertake a fitness class.
All ages, men and women, are welcome.
Hydration
Bring lots of water and drink frequently between songs.
Eating before Class?
Don't eat a big meal before class. Eat at least an hour before class for best results.
When to Join
Some newcomers are asking if it is too late to join in. The answer is join anytime, it is never too late to start. Newcomers can pick up enough during the first few classes to be able to follow along. Just go at your own pace and have fun.
Waivers
Due to insurance purposes everyone is required to sign a waiver when they first participate.
Please come a few minutes early to the first class to sign waivers, thanks.
ID Card
ZumbaFunFit has a computerized check-in system when you attend a class. For this purpose we issue you with an ID card that has your name and and identification barcode. The barcode is scanned in on the computer and tracks your class usage. For new comers the ID card will be a paper version that will be replaced by a laminated version the first time that a regular class package is bought. If you lose the card (or it gets washed by mistake and is useless) then we will replace it and request you to donate a looney to the Lanark Country Interval House for Women! More on the process of checking in.
